YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles
The Youth and Government Model Legislature and Court (MLC) has been the state’s premier youth leadership and civic development program since 1948. The MLC creates a six-month learn-by-doing experience that teaches the values of democracy by bringing together a cross-section of the state’s high school students. This program allows teens to experience the California government first-hand and learn how to solve community problems through the democratic process, as well as debate and discuss issues with their peers from throughout the State. Student delegates in the MLC model the California State Legislative processes and our court and legal system. The MLC Advisor will lead participants in experiences related to leadership training, personal growth, service to others, and social development. The volunteer is also responsible for all participants' safety and for creating a fun, safe, and healthy environment. Volunteers must be committed to this project until its completion in March 2025, this includes weekly meetings and attendance at two in-person conferences. For dates, times, and locations of weekly meetings reach out to your Teen Director.
