Volunteer Community Hiking Guide (Trail Leader)

Mid Valley Family YMCA

The Mid Valley YMCA the center for community well-being is seeking Volunteer Hiking Guides to help lead community hikes that promote wellness, connection, and outdoor exploration. Volunteers will guide groups on local trails, ensure participant safety, and create a welcoming and encouraging environment for hikers of all experience levels. Responsibilities may include serving as the hike leader (setting the pace and providing trail direction), acting as the sweep (staying at the back to ensure no one falls behind), or supporting as a safety assistant (helping with check-ins, headcounts, and monitoring trail conditions). Hikes typically range from 3–5 miles and may vary in difficulty from easy to moderate. Volunteers should be comfortable hiking, communicating clearly with groups, and following YMCA safety guidelines. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred but not required. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy the outdoors and want to make a positive impact by helping others stay active and connected through nature. Hikes may vary in location but will primarily take place throughout the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles area.
