California YMCA Youth & Government
For Middle School Students California YMCA Youth & Government has offered the Model United Nations (MUN) program to middle school students throughout the state since 2001. Middle school students or "delegates" will come together in delegations and participate in the program with peers from across California. They are given the opportunity to discuss international issues, discover other cultures, develop life-enhancing skills, and make new friends. This year, MUN is a 12-week program which will include a one day training conference and a 2 night MUN Summit: one each in the North and South. At the Summit, students will represent assigned countries as ambassadors and work to solve global issues with the skills they have acquired.

California YMCA Youth & Government
For over 75 years, California YMCA Youth & Government has provided high school youth throughout California an experiential learning program by modeling California’s legislature and courts. The program offers teen youth participants from around the state the opportunity to collaborate with others and build skills such as critical thinking, persuasive public speaking, writing and research. Youth & Government is rooted in the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and is a platform for social responsibility, servant leadership and personal development. Our goal is to nurture the next generation of civically engaged Californians, so that they recognize the importance of: Civic Knowledge: High School Delegates begin to understand the structure, function and procedures of California's Legislative and Judicial processes. Civic Awareness: High School Delegates learn to identify the major issues facing their communities. Civic Action: High School Delegates become equipped with the tools they’ll need to make change in their community and can identify the importance of mutual respect, personal responsibility and active listening in group settings. The 76th Model Legislature & Court will bring together more than 1300 youth participants representing over 50 delegations across California. Delegates will participate in weekly local delegation meetings. The program will include multiple conferences, culminating in a February conference in Sacramento where delegates put their training into action as they assume their given roles. Legislation is debated and court cases are decided, as teens apply skills they have gained in the program! The Youth and Government Model Legislature and Court (MLC) has been the state’s premier youth leadership and civic development program since 1948. The MLC creates a six-month learn-by-doing experience that teaches the values of democracy by bringing together a cross-section of the state’s high school students. This program allows teens to experience the California government first-hand and learn how to solve community problems through the democratic process, as well as debate and discuss issues with their peers from throughout the State. Student delegates in the MLC model the California State Legislative processes and our court and legal system. The MLC Advisor will lead participants in experiences related to leadership training, personal growth, service to others, and social development. They will assist with access control by confirming all members scan their barcode upon entry to ensure their membership is active and up to date. This includes verifying the photo on file matches the individual entering; and notifying members of any issue with their account, such as no waiver on file or account suspension, so they may resolve the issue with a membership staff. The YMCA Early Learning Readiness (ELR) program provides a stimulating environment to help children (0-5 years) develop the physical, verbal, and social skills which they'll need to be school-ready. During the program, caregivers learn how children develop and how to encourage skill building at home. Before early learners walk into a school classroom, their primary caregivers at home are their first teachers. Through this Caregiver & Child class, family will find a safe, fun place to play, explore, and learn through songs, stories, and family activities with their children. The YMCA is seeking program volunteers to assist with program set-up and program clean-up and to also assist the ELR Instructor with tasks during the program session, such as assisting with prepping supplies and materials, helping families check-in and greeting families when they arrive.
